Matt Taylor knows the New Apostolic Reformation inside and out, and has a unique talent for translating the cultural and theological into layman’s terms so we can grasp the gravity of this moment. As he notes in our interview, this is truly a seismic shift in the religious right away from the televangelists of yore to hard right influencers, savvy in the dominant tools of the moment and preaching a story of spiritual warfare which already helped lead many adherents to attack the Capitol on January 6th.
The Appeal to Heaven flag? Peter Thiel seeing the “antichrist” around every corner? Tucker Carlson being visited by demons?? Sounds crazy if you’re like most Americans, but amid the growing New Apostolic Reformation network this *is* gospel.
As your resident “papist” (a derogatory term for Catholics) much of this *used to be* foreign to me. I started down this rabbit hole years ago while researching my biography of Mike Pence, “Piety & Power”, and am now pretty keenly tuned to the call-outs, from the White House to the pews.
