‘It's an unbelievable ascendancy,’ one RNC attendee said of the political newcomer’s rocket ride to Trump’s side
MILWAUKEE — “Are you kidding me? Everybody’s through the roof,” Ohio state treasurer and GOP delegate Robert Sprague said of seeing a fellow Buckeye, freshman Sen. J.D. Vance, join Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential ticket.
The newly minted vice presidential nominee introduced himself to America on Wednesday night with a prime-time acceptance speech peppered with anecdotes about the forgotten Rust Belt families and decimated communities chronicled in his 2016 memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” attacks on embattled Democratic President Joe Biden, and fawning praise for the former president offering him the chance of a lifetime.
“Joe Biden has been a politician in Washington for longer than I’ve been alive,” the 39-year-old Vance said on stage, needling the 81-year-old incumbent president while steering clear of making any age-related references to his septuagenarian running mate.
Several Ohio delegation members attending the Republican National Convention told 24sight News they expect big things from Vance — even though he’s only won one race and has been in office less than 18 months.
“He's the future of our party,” proclaimed Ohio delegate Jane Timken.
