Friends, if you’re a regular reader/listener/viewer of 24sight News, you’re probably familiar with
. He co-founded The Lincoln Project and is a longtime expert on Latino voting trends in America. This is from our Substack Live earlier today (Friday, June 27.) If you have friends or family who you think would like this, please share with them. The goal here at 24sight is actionable, grounded intelligence from people who know it best. The reality of this moment in American politics is crazy enough without adding any hyperbole, exaggeration or just flat-out bullshit (we’ll leave that to the politicians.)
Make sure to read Mike’s latest over at his excellent Substack, The Great Transformation, which we talked about at length — “The Latino Vote Reality Check”, with the latest Pew polling on the 2024 race, and how and why so many Latino voters shifted
(By default, if someone is Latino *and* they voted in the federal elections, that would mean they are a citizen. If there’s a mystery bloc of illegal voting, there’s been a whole decade to find it. Though, I would note, this does *not* necessarily apply to local elections where, indeed, some localities have granted voting privileges to undocumented immigrants.)
Make sure to follow Mike this weekend, btw, as he reports from … CPAC Latino in Miami. As we discussed during the Substack Live, many of the same people who used to demand that English be deemed the official language of the U.S. will now be regaling activists in, as CPAC notes, it’s first ever bilingual Latino event.
Show Notes
Why economics, cost of living — not even jobs — have been the driving factors for Latino voters in recent elections
Will the ICE raids, masked agents, brutal detentions (caught on camera), drive a Latino swing back to Dems similar to the fallout from the roundups during the first Trump term?
Why Latinos are the new Soccer/Panera Moms of federal elections
The NYC primary, the rise of socialists in the Democratic Party and how this reflects
A good and deep discussion on the fascism that was propped up in Latin America under previous U.S. administrations, and how much of that is now popping up here in the U.S.
Mike’s literal kitchen-table start in politics and good and proper Jesuit training at Georgetown, which I would note is reflected in the breadth and quality of his work
CPAC Latino invited Mike Madrid to come cover the event, so he will be covering the circus for all of our viewing pleasure
