Yes! I found you--thankfully--through the fabulous The Lincoln Project, with Reed Galen. Galen has a natural talent for making a podcast, at this critical time! I never expected to enjoy the work of a former “w” Bush operative, or feel we had so much in common! He has a comforting voice in addition to substance, so that his podcast is my main “go to,” when I’m overwrought and anxious, and need distraction, to get to sleep! It’s paradoxical to write of Reed Galen as a podcaster who can “put me to sleep!” But I mean it in the best sense! It’s comforting to a) listen to his voice, and b) know that some of the best minds in politics are paying attention to our national peril, knowing how critical this work is just now. I once thought I could count on The Washington Post (which has, in years long passed, published a few of my best investigative reports) or The New York Times, but while they carry great opinion pieces, their lead content often gives Trump an alarming legitimacy. Headlines and stories recently focused on Trump’s runaway victories in the New Hampshire primary, while curiously, ignoring an analysis of his weakness among his Republican voters--votes he needs to win a general election. Nor do I see nearly enough about his ongoing cognitive decline, which in itself should alarm everyone, especially Republicans and anyone else thinking of voting for him!
How can anyone normalize the present state of national affairs, in which honest Republican Senators and Representatives have been retiring in a generally unprecedented number from Congress, unable to vote their conscience for fear for their lives, or unelectable either, while those who stay, take their lead from a deranged former president.
Then, there’s the problem of Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell, recently having suffered a significant stroke that, in normal times, should raise an outcry about his ability to remain in office! How is this OK, while Senator Diane Feinstein, similarly incapacitated, was subject to constant pressure to leave. Further, all of the remaining GOP in Congress are also afraid of Trump’s wrath! Especially knowing he’s backed by his own freelance brownshirts! Meanwhile the American public is genuinely perplexed as to why President Joe Biden doesn’t get more done! They blame him for the very real crisis at the Mexican border, (FIVE Million would-be immigrants in number in the past three years!) while GOP leaders refuse to act, because it would give Biden a political win!
The lives of millions of real people are to them, completely expendable.
Umm, sorry for the long rant! If I’d known I would write so long, I would have posted on my own blog! ...guess I’ll go make some blueberry muffins, now.
